 JULY 31st - August 4th, 2024

LETTER FROM A MENTOR
Image
My involvement with the Rotsky Foundation began when I attended an awards ceremony at Case Western Reserve University about 20 years ago.  Jeff Rotsky was being recognized as a special “young alumnus”.  At this time, I was interested in mentoring and had looked into Big Brothers; I had gone through all of the evaluation and approval processes, but they were very slow in assigning me a student to mentor.  That night at the CWRU event, I mentioned this to Jeff and, to my surprise, he said, “I have someone you can begin working with tomorrow”.

BECOME A MENTOR

Spend Quality Time with Your Protégé
Image
Although we ask that mentors have at least three contacts with their protégé each month (two check up calls & get together once), the quality of the time you spend together can have a direct impact on the success of your mentor/protégé relationship.  We urge you to be creative in the development of your relationship and in the activities in which you become involved as a mentor/protégé team.  To follow are merely some ideas shared by past and present mentors on how you can become involved in the life of your protégé.

BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Get connected to your community.

You know all the reasons why you should volunteer more often—it benefits others, just plain feels good, and helps you bank good karma—but if those aren’t giving you the motivation you need, try these: Volunteering just one day a month will give your life a greater sense of purpose and will make you feel more connected to your community.

Researchers looked at survey data collected from more than 3,200 Americans who were asked questions related to the frequency of their volunteer work and their mental and physical health. Turns out there’s a significant correlation between social well-being and volunteer work.

BECOME A PROTÉGÉ

Help a student to realize their full potential
Image
Potential protégés are nominated by a guidance counselor or school principal.  Generally they are chosen because of the student's dedication to their school work and the potential for success in their future.  The students who show the self drive and determination but need that something extra to help them leap the hurdles and pass the milestones of middle school and high school toward college.

As a protégé you will complete an application and interview with founder/director, Jeff Rotsky, and/or Director, Joe Klir.  The protégé will have to sign and commit to a creed that binds them to participate and support The Rotsky Foundation.
